Newsletter – September/October 2022

Fall is upon us and with it brings a many a Indian celebrations. Currently many of the Indians from different regions are celebrating the festival of Navaratri and Dussehra in their own traditional ways. October 5th happens to be Vijaya Dashami celebrating the victory for Good over Evil again differently in the  various regions of India.

School has started back and many families sent off their children for the first time away from home to far away places for their next steps in education. To fill the void for many of the families we are embarking on an in person Diwali event at the end of this month, details of which are later in this newsletter.

Cooler evenings have been welcome after the relentless hot days.  Now our next hope is that the peak heat of the days will also come down.  Cooler temperatures also warn us to be more cautious with personal safety and please stay upto date with you COVID and Flu shots and do not venture out if you are sick. Personal isolation of 2-5 days is the best gift you can give to the community if you have a viral illness.

Temple Activities –  October 16th, 2022
We continue to see more people venturing out to the temple on the 3rd Sunday for Pooja.  Last month on September 18th, we had close to 30 devotees for the Pooja performed by Prof. Bhawuk. We were also treated to a plethora of wonderful sweets in celebration of the summer. We hope to see many of you this month on October 16th. We have a sponsored event for anna danam (food) this month. If we continue to have community interest we will try and set up monthly zoom. At present it will be done on a case by case basis on request only.

In Memory of – Manjit Reddick
Honolulu September, 2022
Manjit Reddick passed away last month after a prolonged and heroic battle with a chronic illness. We hope to share some fond memories of her in our next edition of the newsletter.  A quick internet search brought up this image almost 18 years to the day so I thought it was fitting for me to share this to bring back some memories of pleasant days in the lives of Manjit and Ron Reddick.
