Lotus Hawaii – Indian COVID Crisis

Dear LOTUS Ohana:

I am writing this brief note to update you on the plans the LOTUS leadership is contemplating for support of the second wave of the pandemic afflicting many parts of India.  There have been several enquiries from our members and I feel that we need to communicate our overall strategy of use of our own limited resources to help in this crisis.

What people in India are going through currently is gut wrenching. We feel the most effective help any of the members can do is directly work with friends or organizations that they are aware of in India to potentially impact help immediately.

If there is a sense to work with US based organizations, some who are trying to procure equipment support are listed below.

The leadership at LOTUS has made the decision to be strategic and work on targeted help at the time when this peak of infection plateaus when it is estimated a lot more people who are recovering from infection and devastated financially are going to be in dire need of food and monetary help.  So we anticipate a organizational effort in about four to six weeks.  We welcome general donations from our membership to support in this effort.

What is playing out in India has played out in many other countries including the US and I would urge all of us to continue to maintain vigilance and avoid complacency even in the face of increasing number of vaccinations.

We welcome suggestion from our readers even as we figure out a way to navigate these unprecedented times in the most practical and pragmatic way.

Warm aloha and Stay Safe,

V. Balaraman, President
On Behalf of The LOTUS Board
