Community News -September 2026
Happy Janmashtami: After a hiatus of a few months, we are getting our newsletter jump started again. Even as I share my perspective of the community and other news, I would like to take this opportunity to try to get you all in the community to share snippets for us to include in this newsletter which I hope to get out at least on a monthly basis. Hawaii is facing a slew of storms in its vicinity and the the next two months of the hurricane season look to be something we need to take seriously and be prepared for potentially extended utility outages. Please stay safe and prepared for this. We are actively planning our Diwali event with the anticipated scheduling of that event in the second week of November. Please be on the lookout for more announcements regarding the event. Interested individuals and group participants may use this link to inform us about their interest in performing in the cultural event. Still and Moving Center is planning an event in collaboration with Hawaii Theater on November 6th which will depict “Ramayana”. They have been doing this annual event at the Still and Moving center but plan to have this collaboration with Hawaii Theater this year. Details can be found on their website. GIIP will be celebrating Gandhi day In October. See the attached flyer for details. ![]() There have been calamitous floods in many parts of the world. The one that resonates with me and I am sure with our community is the tragedy in the Himalayas (Tibet/Nepal border). We anticipate there will be many NGO’s involved with fundraising and helping in the rebuilding effort. We will use all means to keep you informed about how to support in this effort. The summer is over and the fall is starting. Schools and Colleges have either started or will soon be starting. We wish all in the community a safe beginning to the educational journey. Warm aloha V.
